KOHO Hotel was one of the hotels I shortlisted due to its reasonable mid-range pricing and strategic location. Whenever I decided to stay overnight in Johor Bahru, I usually look for accommodation that offers a good balance between affordability, comfort and convenience. This time it was a furniture shopping trip for my new home, and I decided to stay overnight instead of making a rushed day trip.
KOHO Hotel sits along a busy main road, giving drivers easy access when travelling into Johor Bahru. Although the hotel is not directly connected to any major shopping mall, it occupies a convenient location between KSL City Mall and Mid Valley Southkey. Both are 2 of Johor Bahru’s most popular shopping destinations.
Upon arriving at the hotel, I met up with my friend at the lobby. Interestingly, the lobby felt more like the entrance of a small shopping mall rather than a hotel. One thing that immediately caught my attention was the absence of a conventional reception counter. Instead, guests can complete the entire check-in process through two self-service kiosks. After scanning my booking details, the machine automatically dispensed our room cards, making the process quick and hassle-free.
With our room cards in hand, we headed straight up to our room to rest before dinner.
KOHO Hotel Simple and Modern Hotel Room
The room featured a clean and contemporary design with neutral earth-tone colors. It created a warm and comfortable atmosphere. I felt the layout was spacious enough to move about without me feeling overly cramped. Soft ambient lighting behind the headboard creates a cosy atmosphere in the evening. The room includes a work desk and chair along one side, providing a workspace for business guests to work or organise their belongings.
The attached bathroom was similarly compact but functional. It came equipped with a rain shower, handheld showerhead, basic toiletries and fresh towels. Overall the room was clean and adequately maintained for a short stay.
Food Options Around the Area
There are several restaurants, eateries and coffee shops located within the vicinity of the hotel. However, my friend and I decided to walk towards Taman Sri Tebrau instead. The neighborhood over there offers a much wider selection of cafes and dining options. From trendy coffee houses and dessert spots to local eateries, it remains one of my preferred areas in Johor Bahru.
Final Thoughts
For travellers seeking an affordable and comfortable stay in Johor Bahru, KOHO Hotel is worth considering. Its location between KSL City Mall and Mid Valley Southkey makes it a convenient base for shopping trips. The self-service check-in system provides a quick and modern arrival experience as well.
