Silk Path Grand Sapa Resort and Spa Review

Silk Path Grand Sapa Resort and Spa is a 5-star resort, perched atop one of Sapa’s highest point, with balconies overlooking the mountains. This was my first time booking and staying at a resort that stretches across a mountainous range!

Our initial plan was to take an overnight train from Hanoi to Lao Cai City, followed by a bus from the train station to the hotel. Unfortunately, Vietjet Air disrupted our plans with a flight delay (postponed) of over three hours. As a result, we missed the opportunity to enjoy the private train cabin journey we had booked beforehand. Instead, we had to book a sleeper bus to reach Silk Path Grand Sapa Resort and Spa. The bus ride was challenging – it was difficult to sleep due to the winding route up to Sapa. Worst of all, I couldn’t claim insurance for missing the train and bus ride.

Despite the rocky start to my trip, it turned out to be an enjoyable experience. I got to relive the feeling of cold weather, with temperatures around 10 degrees Celsius – though admittedly, it was a bit colder than I prefer. The last time I visited Sapa was probably over 10 years ago, and it wasn’t during the winter season.

Balcony Premium Classic Mountain View

After arriving back at the hotel from our day trip to Sun World Fansipan Legend, it was finally time to check back in. The trip had been exhausting, especially since I could hardly get any sleep on the sleeper bus. Thankfully, the check-in process was smooth and pleasant. We were taken to our room – the Balcony Premium Classic Mountain View by buggy!

I stayed at the Silk Path Grand Sapa Resort and Spa for three nights, and it was nothing short of spectacular. The room was spacious and tastefully decorated, blending Sapa’s colonial heritage with the vibrant cultures of the region. Traditional Vietnamese touches were evident in the bed linens and wall decorations inspired by the indigenous tribes of Sapa.

The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the large balcony offered stunning views of the foggy mountains. Correction – it was far too freezing during winter to sit outside, and the thick fog made it nearly impossible to see anything. Still, the experience was cozy and memorable. One of my favorite features was the enormous bathtub, which I made great use of during my stay, soaking away the chill of the winter weather.

Hotel Amenities

The architectural design of Silk Path Grand Sapa Resort and Spa felt almost like a palace to me. The resort featured numerous fountains scattered throughout the compound, surrounded by meticulously maintained greenery. It truly felt like I was immersed in an atmosphere of luxury and tranquility.

Interestingly, the front desk and restaurants are located in a separate building from the guest rooms, adding to the sense of grandeur. For those who might lose their way, the resort even provided a detailed directional map of the compound’s layout – a thoughtful touch that made navigating the sprawling property much easier.

I opted to top up for the breakfast buffet at SAMU for all three days of my stay, as it was far too cold to venture out in the mornings without a proper meal. The breakfast spread was quite decent, offering a variety of dishes ranging from local North Vietnamese specialties to international cuisine.

The swimming pool looked incredibly inviting, but I ultimately decided to skip it. Since it was located in another building within the hotel compound, it wasn’t exactly convenient to step out in just a bathrobe and slippers without shivering in the cold. As for the gym, it had relatively few pieces of equipment. However, since I rarely use hotel gyms, this wasn’t a significant drawback for me.

All in all, Silk Path Grand Sapa Resort and Spa is an idyllic escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. There is also a shuttle service between the resort and the Sapa Town Center for guests from 7.00 am to 22.15 pm.
