Vincent Van Gogh Paintings at Musée d’Orsay, Paris

Besides the renowned Mona Lisa painting at Louvre Museum which I had previously blogged about, Musée d’Orsay houses many well known paintings and artworks of famous artists due to the fact that Louvre Museum literally ran out of space. These artists include Van Gogh, Manet, Monet, Cezanne, Renoir and many more!

It was unfortunate that during the period of time when I was visiting Paris, there was a massive strike going on due to the protest over changes of the country’s pension system. The strike had caused early closure of several museums as well as other institutions, also the closure of the nearest Metro station Musée d’Orsay. That did not stopped us from visiting as we walked from Tuileries station instead.

Did you know that Orsay was once a train station before finally being converted into a museum? You might perhaps have guessed that from its beautiful architecture and interior design.

Thanks to the Paris Museum pass which we had purchased for shorter queues and entry to museums and attractions around Paris, we quickly made our way in. Like all museums, we kept our bulky windbreakers and bag into the locker provided.

We probably had only about an hour and a half to roam and explore this labyrinth of galleries. What made it worst was that I had a horrible gastric cramp from the previous night and the chill from the winter season made it worse. Besides having to rest occasionally, we decided to just follow the crowd to visit Vincent Van Gogh paintings before heading off at the very least.

Vincent Van Gogh was one of the most well known post impressionist artists and yet he had a brief career and lived in poverty. Some might even have known him for losing a portion of his earlobe by a razor.

I only managed to capture a quick image of 3 of his works namely Imperial Fritillaries in a Copper Vase, The Starry Night and Portrait of the Artist (from left to right). Sure glad that we did have the chance to admire the actual artworks of Vincent Van Gogh right in front of our eyes!
