The Grand Palace in Bangkok
I was already sweating profusely as I made my way to The Grand Palace of Bangkok after exploring Wat Pho. When I reached my destination, numerous visitors were already streaming into the grounds. Since I wore shorts and there was a dress code, I was denied entry by the security. Fortunately, there were a few shops across the street where one could either purchase or rent pants/sarong from. The black pants I picked had those standard elephant prints, and I wore it over my shorts.
The entrance tickets for foreigners are 500 baht, while Thai locals get in free. Each of the ticket is further divided into 3 parts, granting access to various location within The Grand Palace compound.
1) – The Grand Palace, The Temple of The Emerald Buddha, The Temple of The Emerald Buddha Museum & Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles.
2) – Arts of The Kingdom Museum, Masterpieces by Artisans of Queen Sirikit Institute, At Koh Kerd, Bang Pa-In District.
3) – “KHON” Thai Classical Masked Dance performance at Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre. Only on weekdays and there will be a shuttle bus to bring you over to the location.
The Grand Palace is a complex of buildings has been the official residence of the Kings of Siam (and later Thailand) since 1782. Not only does it consist of royal and throne halls, but also a number of government offices. Exploring the palace grounds is like walking through another labyrinth.
There are just countless parts to explore around if you have time and are more heat resistant. I could not manage to remember all but at least I covered the major ones such as The Temple of the Emerald Buddha, The Chapel of The Emerald Buddha, The Demon Guardians, Phra Siratana Chedi, Phra Mondop, Chakri Maha Prasat Hall etc. Do check out the full layout from the map I have attached as well.
