Journey to Ipoh by Coach
It was close to midnight as I prepared for my first-ever journey by coach from Singapore to Ipoh, Malaysia. I have heard so much from my Malaysian friends about the limestone mountains, cave temples and irresistible local delicacies over in Ipoh. Now, I was about to experience it firsthand. But first thing first, I would need to go through an almost-sleepless overnight journey in a noisy coach.
After about 7-8 hours of journey by coach with streetlights constantly flashing, I finally caught a glimpse of Ipoh. The city’s rich heritage and colonial architecture got me excited, and I could not wait to alight.
M Boutique Ipoh Hotel
We alighted at Medan Gopeng where we took a Grab over to M Boutique Ipoh Hotel to leave our luggage there. I spent a few hours reading through websites for recommended hotels 2 weeks before and came across M Boutique Hotel. The location was quite convenient since it is around the city center. We could easily walk over to the Taman Jubilee district in 10 minutes where the local dining scene is populated. Since it was too early for check-in, we headed further up, along the Kinta River, to Kedai Makanan Nam Heong for breakfast.
We finally checked into our Superior Room at about 3pm that day, based on the mentioned timing. I must agree with website sources that M Boutique Ipoh Hotel lobby is unique, unlike any other hotel lobbies. It gave me a cozy eclectically eccentric vintage home vibes from the reception to the lift area. I believe such lobby furnishing would delight and encourage people to take memorable photos.
Upon entering our Superior Room, I was disappointed that it was a queen size bed instead of my requested twin bed. The staff mentioned that to upgrade, we would need a top up of 30RM. We decided to stick to the queen size bed in the end. The room also portrayed the same eccentric vintage home vibes and was slightly cramp. Overall, it was still a pleasant experience during our first 2 nights in Ipoh although WIFI connection was bad. A little shoutout that M Boutique Ipoh Hotel provide both 500ml and 1.5-liter bottled water for guests. The staff even had a courtesy to whatsapp me whether we wanted a room clean-up service.
For those who love convenience, there are few vending machines located at ground floor as well. We also had dinner on the second night at Miya Kushiyaki & Teppanyaki Japanese restaurant, located within the hotel. On the third day, we checked out and our journey continues.
