Hako Hotel (Mount Austin) in Johor Bahru Review

A night in Hako Hotel (Mount Austin) during our short getaway to Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

One of my BFF suggested this short getaway trip to Johor Bahru since we have not gone overseas together before. It took me sometime before writing this post since I finally cleared all my pending posts from my Vietnam trip. The trip was held over the weekends, the same week I got back from Vietnam.

We entered Johor Bahru on a Friday morning by bus and had breakfast at Roast & Toast Cafe. It was my second time having breakfast at Roast & Toast Cafe and I recommended it! My friends and I really enjoyed both the delicious food and beverages there.

After breakfast, we took Grab over to Hako Hotel at Mount Austin. The journey was only about 25 mins and upon reaching, we took the lift up to the hotel’s lobby. Since my friend was the one who booked the rooms, I did not check out how the hotel looks like. I was definitely surprised the hotel looks rather cozy and clean, with a spiral staircase at the center.

Hako Hotel has a total of 4 establishments, all located within Johor Bahru itself. The one we were staying would be its latest addition to the group – Hako Hotel Taman Mount Austin. There were biscuits, coffee & tea available along the counter, at the lobby. The check-in process was quite smooth, and we separated ourselves to 2 dual twin rooms to unpack.

The rooms were basic yet also reasonably clean. It was definitely good enough for people like us who looked forward to a comfortable getaway. The toilet was within the frosted glass cubicle, while the wash basin was located outside. Bed and pillow were comfortable as well.

Aside from the hotel, one of our main objectives was to sing karaoke at “Loud Speaker”. It was located within the building on level 1 & 2, with free beverages provided. We sang a total of 4 hours and came out of the room with throat feeling sore. We decided on Lok Lok for dinner before getting desserts at 4 beans. There was no lack of food options around the area and some outlets closes pretty late for the supper crowd.

Hako Hotel also offer free memberships and exclusive member rates to their guest. Do check them out if you happen to look for lodging around Johor Bahru. You may also want to check out my posts for other hotel reviews!
