Cibuni Rengganis Crater is located southwest of Bandung City, offering visitors a glimpse into the natural beauty and geothermal wonders of Java. Since it is only a short distance from the more famous White Crater (Kawah Putih), we decided to drop by for a visit — and it turned out to be a pleasantly surprising stop.
The journey to the crater itself is scenic, winding through lush green mountains and vast tea plantations. The drive offers plenty of photo opportunities as well. You can even spot Patenggang Lake glimmering in the distance — a beautiful reminder of the region’s serene landscape.
Upon arrival, visitors are required to pay an entrance fee of Rp 100,000 per person. It includes a complimentary welcome drink which was a simple but comforting cup of hot tea served in a paper cup.
Crossing the Suspension Bridge
One of the most exciting features of Cibuni Rengganis Crater is the long suspension bridge that connects the main entrance area to the crater site. The bridge stretches impressively across the lush valley below, offering sweeping panoramic views of the surrounding forest and tea plantations.
Walking across the bridge is both thrilling and scary at the same time. I felt the bridge swaying non-stop with each step while cool mountain air rushes past. It is definitely not for the faint-hearted, but it is an experience you should not miss. What make it worse would be the streaming number of people walking through in both directions. Halfway through, the view opens up to reveal green hills and plumes of steam rising from the crater below.
For those afraid of heights, the crossing can be a little nerve-wracking. However, it is definitely one of the best photo spots in the area!

The “Keranjang Sultan” Ride
Another unique attraction here is the Keranjang Sultan, a basket-like ride suspended by sturdy cables. Visitors can sit inside the half-opened woven-looking basket, which is then gently extended outward from the platform. The ride moves out just far enough to provide a dramatic backdrop for photos, with the valley beneath your feet, before smoothly retracting back to the platform.
It is a short but thrilling photo experience, perfect for those looking to capture a striking “Instagram-worthy” shot. Just by looking at the long queue, my friend and I decided to give it a miss instead.
Other Highlights of Cibuni Rengganis Crater
Beside the suspension bridge and the “Keranjang Sultan” Ride, there are also a list of other highlights in the area:
1. Explore the Natural Hot Springs
The highlight of the crater area is its natural hot springs, known for their therapeutic and relaxing properties. Visitors can soak their feet or take a dip in the warm sulfur-rich waters while enjoying the surrounding mountain air. I could feel myself heating up as I walked along the pathway, spotting many steaming vents as well.
2. Take Photos of the Scenic Landscape
The combination of misty hills, steam clouds, and lush greenery makes this area a photographer’s dream. There are plenty of scenic viewpoints perfect for capturing the raw beauty of West Java’s highlands.
3. Sip Tea and Enjoy a Meal with a View
After exploring, you can unwind at the Kinara Resto, or its rest areas while sipping complimentary hot tea. Various beverages and food are also served here, and you could admire the sweeping view of the tea plantations.
All in all, Cibuni Rengganis Crater is a worthwhile stop for those exploring southern Bandung. The combination of all the above pit-stops makes it an attraction that balances nature, adventure, and relaxation.
While the place may not be as polished as some other destinations, it offers a more authentic experience with nature. The surrounding greenery, mountain breeze, and laid-back charm make it a wonderful place to unwind.
