Hotel Puri Melaka Review: A Nostalgic Stay in the Heart of Melaka

I did not expect to return to Melaka so soon after my solo trip back in March 2025. In fact, I returned to Melaka in May 2025, just two months after my last visit. This time, I brought my mum along for a short getaway. We stayed for 4 days and 3 nights, though it felt a bit too long since Melaka is quite compact and easy to explore on foot.

We initially booked a bus via Cityline, but due to a last-minute suspension issue with Malaysian authorities, we had to scramble and switch to another service. This hiccup delayed our arrival—what was supposed to be an afternoon check-in turned into us reaching Melaka around 9pm. We had to rush through check-in and immediately head to Jonker Night Market before it closed, just to grab dinner.

That said, our experience staying at Hotel Puri Melaka made the trip memorable in its own right.

Stepping into the Past at Hotel Puri Melaka

Hotel Puri Melaka is a charming heritage hotel tucked within the historic heart of Melaka, just a street across from the ever-bustling Jonker Walk. Its location alone is a winner—convenient for quick strolls to nearby landmarks, cafés, and of course, the vibrant Jonker night market.

What truly sets Hotel Puri Melaka apart is its rich heritage ambiance. Antique furniture, old photographs, and Peranakan-inspired decor immediately surrounded us as we stepped into the lobby. It felt more like walking into a mini heritage museum than a hotel. The nostalgia was palpable—perfect for history lovers or anyone looking to soak up the vintage vibes. If you’re into photography, this place is perfect and filled with visual charm.

Our room – Superior Twin, was located on the third floor, and while there was unfortunately no lift service (something to keep in mind if you’re travelling with seniors or heavy luggage), the room itself was surprisingly comfortable. Neat, cozy, and maintaining a touch of the hotel’s heritage theme. It offered a good night’s rest after long hours of exploring.

The beds were comfy, the shower pressure was solid, and the heater worked just fine. It was much appreciated after a hot and humid day wandering around the city.

Breakfast: A Mixed Thoughts

Our room rate included daily breakfast for three days, and the experience was a bit of a letdown. The packed dining area on Sunday morning surprisingly worked in our favour. They offered a wider spread of food like nasi lemak, traditional kuehs, and other local bites. Although refills were slow, the staff still replenished the items.

However, when it comes to Monday and Tuesday, the variety took a sharp dive. The breakfast buffet offered limited options, and the staff barely refilled the food. We eventually decided to explore local breakfast spots instead—something Melaka definitely excels in. The hotel bundled breakfast into our room rate without giving us an opt-out option, which was a bit disappointing.

Despite the breakfast woes, Hotel Puri Melaka served as a lovely recharging base for our trip. Its unbeatable location, nostalgic charm, and cozy rooms made it feel like more than just a place to sleep—it was part of the heritage experience itself.

If you’re planning a trip to Melaka and want to experience its old-world charm, Hotel Puri Melaka is a great choice. Just don’t count too much on the weekday breakfast, and pack light if you’re not a fan of stairs!
